Walk-a-thon for Mary Henning

The teachers and staff of Julius Marks Elementary have organized a walk-a-thon to help offset the high cost of the medical treatments that Mary Henning is receiving in her battle against cancer.  

The walk-a-thon will be on September 25th from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Julius Marks Elementary School.  The cost of the walk-a-thon is $20 per adult and $10 per child.  If you are interested in participating, Traci Summers has offered to collect checks made payable to "Mary Henning Medical Fund" and take them to Julius Marks for us.

The varsity will be playing at the Cake Classic Tournament that day in Northern Kentucky, but it would be great for the freshman and JV teams to walk this as a team.

Tates Creek will be playing in Pool A.  They scheduled the teams that were traveling the farthest to play last so our first game on Friday night will be at 7:30 PM.  Coach will be contacting the varsity players and parents later with more specific travel plans.

Tournament starts at 2:00 PM

• First and second place team from each pool will be in the Gold Bracket

The volleyball team, boosters and coaches would like to extend a huge "Thank You" to all that participated in the 4th Annual Tates Creek Volleyball Golf Scramble.

Kearney Hill did an excellent job of hosting the sixty three golfers that enjoyed some great weather and two full 18 hole rounds of golf.

Congratulations to the team from Bluegrass Mailing won the afternoon 4 person scramble, but several teams were in contention for the lead.

It was a great group of golfers that really appreciate the impact that high school athletics can have on our world.

The booster club would also like to recognize Gordon Summers for all the hours of hard work that went into making this happen.  It was a great opportunity for the whole team to work together with some great organizations in Lexington and Fayette County.

4th Annual Tates Creek Volleyball Golf Scramble

If you have talked with Gordon Summers lately, you know that he is definitely excited about the 4th Annual Tates Creek Volleyball Golf Scramble.

This year, we will be combining efforts with the Hockey and Lacrosse teams so we should be able to field more teams for an even better event.

Feedback from last year also indicated a desire to have a course to ourselves so Gordon has reserved a course this year.

• 2:00 PM Four Person Shotgun Scramble
  

Cost:

• $80 per Golfer ( Scramble only )
• $100 per Golfer ( Scramble and Best Ball )

Lunch and prizes are included for either package.

All the forms for registering teams and collecting a tax deductible hole sponsorship can be printed from the following link:

Proceeds from the hole sponsorships go to the team selling the sponsorship.

Proceeds from the registered teams will pay for the course and support the Tates Creek Volleyball Program as the develop great student athletes.

Bluegrass State Games Schedule

On Friday, the Varsity team will be playing at Lexington Catholic HS at 1:30pm and 3:30pm. The girls will need to be at the gym at 12:30. The girls will need to have with them all of their volleyball equipment, black Tates Creek warm-up shirts and their maroon jerseys.

JV will be playing at KBA on Friday at 2:30pm and 4:30pm. Coach Amy will be notifying the girls on what time to meet and what jerseys to wear.

Our Booster Club has a great opportunity to make some money before our season even starts!

We have been asked by the Pinnacle Pool to set up and tear down for their Swim Conference this weekend. We are asking for any Parents and Players who are available on Friday from 12-4pm to set up for the conference at the Pinnacle pool and to tear down on Sunday afternoon from 4-until it's over. We need around 10-12 helpers for each day.

Practices will begin on Monday. Varsity will be praticing from 8-10 and 1-3. Freshmen and JV will be practicing from 11-1. Additional practice information and forms will be handed out at the parent meeting, Monday night. Players are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Tryout Schedule

Tryouts will be held in the TCHS gym on July 15-16.

• Upperclassmen and returning players will be trying-out from 8:00am-10:00am on both days.
• Incoming Freshmen and middle school girls will be trying out from 10:30am-12:30pm on both days.

REMINDER: You must have all of your paperwork in before you can tryout, if it is not in you will not be able to tryout.

University of Kentucky Team Camp

Returning players from the 2009 Tates Creek Volleyball team will be attending the UK Team Camp starting on July 12. The cost of the camp is $270 per player but the boosters will be paying the first $100 of that fee.

If you have not already filled out the attached form, please do so and provide it to Coach Shannon on July 7th at Noon along with a check for $170 written to "Kentucky Volleyball Camps" for the remaining costs for the camp.

Tates Creek Academic Awards and Scholarships

Congratulations to all the Tates Creek Current and Former Volleyball players that were recognized at the Tates Creek 2009-2010 school awards ceremonies at the end of the year.

These players have demonstrated that the attitude and discipline that is required to play the game volleyball can be translated to academics and service. Every girl on the team or ever a part of the program should feel a part of these awards as each player has pushed one another to be better on and off the court.

Tates Creek's new head coach will be there to meet next years boosters, distribute information about summer conditioning, try outs, and the preliminary schedule for the coming season.

Spread the word to any parents of incoming freshman that are interested in trying out for Tates Creek Volleyball in the summer.

New Head Coach - Shannon Alford

After interviewing several candidates, the Tates Creek High School athletic department has selected Shannon Alford as the head coach for the 2010 volleyball season.

Shannon played for Georgetown College prior to her first coaching position at Tates Creek High School in 2006. The following season, Shannon was returned to Georgetown College as an assistant coach.

Shannon will be bringing this college level coaching experience back to Tates Creek this coming 2010-2011 school year.

The Tates Creek Volleyball boosters and 2009 Volleyball team all wish outgoing Head Coach Megan Filburn the best as she starts her family.

Questions from parents prior to the next booster meeting should be directed to the Residing Booster Club President Robby Carter.

Patriots Sign Casey Sisk from Tates Creek

Friday, April 9 - St. Catharine College Volleyball Coach Adam Stevenson signed Casey Sisk for the class of 2010 from Tates Creek High School today. Casey signed a NAIA letters of intent to officially join the SCC volleyball program in a ceremony at the Tates Creek High School Library.

Casey played Middle Blocker for Tates Creek and TEVA Volleyball Club. She was honored to be named Most Improved Player in 2008 and 2009. She also recieved the Coaches Award this year. While in High school she was in the BETA Club and the International Baccalaureate Program.

“I think Casey will have great impact on the St. Catharine Volleyball program,” stated Coach Stevenson. “She is a quick middle who still has a lot of potential as she adapts to playing at the college level.”

Asbury Volleyball adds Wheeler for 2010

Lexington, Ky. - Abi Wheeler of Tates Creek High School in Lexington has signed with Coach JP Rader and the Asbury Eagles Volleyball team for the Fall of 2010. The signing came in a ceremony at Tates Creek on Tuesday afternoon.

Abi Wheeler will join her sister Hannah on the 2010 Eagles Volleyball team.

Wheeler played for five years at Tates Creek under coach Megan Filburn, and will join her sister Hannah on the Eagles squad in 2010. Abi was named to the Lexington All-City 2^nd Team in 2009 and was also named to the Cake Classic All Tournament Team. She was also a member of the 2005 Commodore team that made a run to the State Quarterfinals.

"Abi's versatility makes her a valuable addition to our team as we head into the 2010 season" Coach JP Rader said. "We are excited to add a player of her skill and strength of character."

A right-side hitter in high school, Wheeler could also find time as a defensive specialist or possibly set according to Coach Rader.
